How to Answer: Why Do You Want to Work Here? Interview Question

By Learnist.org

How to answer Why do you want to work for this company? interview question. Make sure you give this question some thought.

There are actually a few questions you need to answer here:

  • What do you know about the company and the position that makes it attractive to you?
  • Do you have any evidence that you can provide that you have an interest in the sort of thing we do?
  • What do you hope to get out of the job, apart from a salary?
  • Evidence is not physical evidence but how can you back up that this is the job for you? For example if the job is for a Office Manager then you could say that from the time you started work you have always enjoyed working in an office environment and that you feel you have excellent administration skills and are good at managing other people.

Are there any courses or training that you have been on to prove that you have done everything to get where you currently are?

The interviewer will want to know within this question that if they are going to invest time in you that you are going to stay with the company for a decent amount of time and not just use this as a stop gap.

You must be able to prove to your interviewer that you understand completely what the job is all about and that you can do it and really truly want to do it and achieve something within their organisation.

Example Answers

I have always liked the idea of being ‘my own boss’, so to be offered an opportunity like this where I can canvass for a national company whilst being self-employed is fantastic. I know I will do well with your name behind me, but I can set my own hours, and you know I won’t let you down, as I would be letting myself down!

#2

I have always wanted to work for you as I love your store and I only live 2 minutes away. I have been waiting for a position to open up that I am qualified for, and now it has I would be thrilled to be offered it. To be able to work for a store that I love, and be so close that I can walk in, would be fantastic. Instead of sitting in a car to work I can walk in and help the environment, and would be able to cover shifts at short notice if anyone needed me to.
