Baby Sitter Interview Questions

Most times you would have you interview with the agency however sometimes families may want to interview you too. The best way to find a Baby Sitting job is to register with agencies and wait for them to call you for a job.

Baby sitting job can be part-time or full-time, sometimes parents may want to work with you regularly.

Interview questions for a babysitting role conducted by the family who you are potentially going to be babysitting for are most likely to be quite personal. Its a lot different to working in a business environment as you are in someone else’s house with their children, the most precious things they have and they are looking for someone to trust to look after their children.

Apart from general questions about your previous work experience they will want to know how you deal with certain situations for example: if you are being employed just to babysit at night potentially when the child/children are asleep they will want to know what you will do if they wake up and are upset? Will you go and check the children and how many times? If you are being employed to babysit in the day or when the children are awake they will want to know what you will do if a child refuses to do something such as eat their lunch, snack etc, how will you deal with this? They will want to know what kind of activities you will do with the children, whether you can take them to the park etc, do you drive, think about your situation/location and what you could do and where you could take them.

Should a family be interested in you, ensure that you recommend meeting with the children and spending an hour or so getting to know them so that the first time you are in a working situation they are aware of who you are.

Here are most asked interview questions:

Tell me about yourself
Why should we hire you?
Why do you want this job?
What is your greatest strength?
What is your greatest weakness?
What are your salary expectations?
What motivates you?

  1. This would be more for a Nanny job, there isnt a baby sitting vacancy.  Nannying jobs are not that common these days either, but if you want to work with children it is a good way to go.  You will need to be very trustworthy though and will need to undergo a full enhanced CRB check

  2. Sometimes, families will conduct small, informal interviews themselves in order to find their perfect baby sitter.

It’s quite obvious what people are looking for in a babysitter. You need to be good with children, as parents are looking for somebody who’s friendly and fun. Sometimes, you can even get away with having little or no qualifications and even no experience if the family thinks you’d be good with the children.

If it is more of a nanny position and you’re applying to an agency, for example, be aware that there will be very strict background checks carried out as you’ll be working with children.
