If you have been invited to an interview as a Banking Assistant then you may already have some prior banking knowledge but if not then you will probably come from a customer services background. The role of a banking assistant will have a great deal of contact with customers and need to have a very confident approach to customers and colleagues.

Before attending your interview, make sure that you have researched thoroughly the bank that you are hoping to be employed by. Do you have any prior knowledge of banking and if so with who? Draw comparisons that maybe you could bring into your interview?

You will need to dress very smartly for your interview as it is business dress or maybe a uniform when working in a bank and you need to come across as ready for business.

Your interviewer will be looking at your customer service skills and how you communicate with others. It is essential to have a calm and patient manner towards your customers but also you will be required to learn new products and services very quickly to be able to explain this to customers coming into the branch.

Some possible questions that you could be asked during your interview are:
How would you deal with an awkward customer? When would you feel you need to escalate a problem?What do you understand about the products and services we offer?Do you know anyone else who works for the name of the bank?How are your maths skills?Are you prepared to do any further training?Your interviewer will be looking how you can work towards targets selling new products, if you can work as part of a team and how you will manage with customers and learning new products. You will need to have a confident nature and be able to pay great attention to detail in this role.
