Dear Sirs

I should like to apply for the role of Engineering Supervisor as advertised recently.

I am currently in charge of a small engineering department for a firm of Civil Engineers. I am responsible for hiring, training and developing new recruits and work closely with team members to manage engineering projects to ensure their successful completion.

Specifically, I schedule staff assignments, supervise the staff within the engineering team, assist the team leaders, develop appropriate systems to track the projects and liaise with directors to report on progress and report back regarding performance reviews to ensure the projects are on track, or to explain delays and outline solutions to recover project time.

I have a degree in computer engineering which is of great value, particularly as most of our projects are driven by computer aided design (CAD) systems.

I enjoy mentoring junior members and explaining the technical and analytical processes involved in the creation and successful execution of a project.  A lot of the work also involves problem solving, as you would expect, and
I am able to remain calm under pressure, which is a great asset when balancing dealing with the demands of the organisation and its clients, and being able to get the best performance out of a team, several of whom are fairly inexperienced and, therefore, looking for inspiration and sound leadership.

I would now like to expand my capabilities by working in a larger department in line with my further studying to help me progress to a senior management position. I am currently studying part-time for a Masters Degree in Engineering and am one year into the course.

I enclose my CV and am available for interview at your convenience. References are available on request and I very much look forward to hearing from you as appropriate.

Yours faithfully
