(Date)

Dear Mrs Brown

I would like to give formal notice in writing of my resignation from the post of IT Support Technician within the Helpdesk section of the company from today’s date.

My contract of employment states that I am required to give one month’s notice of my leaving the company but I would be grateful if you would consider allowing me to leave a little earlier, on (date). Please let me know if this is acceptable.

I have gained a lot of valuable experience with AA Company but I have decided to move to another part of the country and have been able to secure another post close to my new home.  I think it is important for me to let you know that my immediate supervisor, Joe, has been very supportive and that I have enjoyed working for the company.

I know that there is an exit interview process for most staff and would be very happy to participate in this.

I would like to offer my best wishes to my colleagues and the company in the future.

Yours sincerely

John Smith

  1. Very nice letter, I agree it is always the best to keep the letter formal but friendly (ie no saying that you have hated your time with the company, or your boss Joe Bloggs is a right miserable so and so, as this really will do you no favours
