What would be your ideal working environment?

Last updated : 8 November 2018

What would be your ideal working environment?

As long as you have done your research on the job you will hopefully be doing, this question should not pose any undue stress. Your answer should be tailored in some way, if not completely, towards the job and working environment you expect to be in. Although generally telling the truth is the best policy, if you tell an interviewer for a call centre that your ideal working environment is outdoors in total isolation, you would be fairly safe to assume you needed to keep on looking for a job.

If the interview was for a call centre you could say. "I enjoy keeping busy. For me, I like a fast paced working  environment where I can be dynamic and feel like I am genuinely helping people." This answer gives the impression that you favour the conditions that you will inevitably encounter should you get the job. Expanding to add that you enjoy helping people will hopefully help project positive characteristics which they will remember after you have left the interview.

If for example, you will be working as part of an engineering team. You could easily tailor your answer to suit. "My ideal working environment is one in which I am part of a highly functional team. I love having my ideas heard and really getting the chance to contribute to achieving a set goal. I enjoy working with my hands and working with…(something related to the job)."

This question is designed to determine whether or not you fit the "mould" for the job. Answering truthfully will result in your suitability for the job being better assessed. Also it would be detrimental to both the individual and the company for you to end up in an environment that you hated. However, with some research and being a little creative and targeted in relation to your answers, you will hopefully increase your chances of landing the job.

More answers:

"I like working in small companies since I get exposed to more things much faster".

If its a big company then you can say "I would reach to the resources easily, meet different people in the same industry".

Helpdesk Interview Questions

A helpdesk interview will strongly focus on your abilities to interact with the public. Your potential employer will be looking for someone who will be able to engage with customers and appear genuinely friendly. As the helpdesk worker will often find themselves dealing with irate, frustrated customers, it is important to show are capable of remaining cool under pressure. It is completely unacceptable for an employee to snap at a customer despite the high level of aggression (even if not aimed directly at the employee) some customers will be displaying. You will definitely be asked questions about how you would deal with such scenarios at some point in your interview. It is important to explain that you would remain calm in order to attempt to calm down the customer.

As you will hopefully be taking up a position on a helpdesk you are obviously there to help. Although you will be given training it would be an advantage to have some background knowledge on the subject you will be dealing with. For example, sitting on a car maintenance companies help desk will prove difficult if you have no knowledge of cars. Whatever job you are going for, you will be expected to have at least a basic understanding of what they do and some knowledge on the problems you may be required to help with. You should expect some work related questions which will be used to gauge the level you are at. This will give your potential employer an idea of how much training would be required should you be hired. If you will be in the public eye it also stands to reason that you will need to be dressed to a required standard each day. Therefore, make an extra effort for the interview. Whether you are informed or not, the interviewer will be casting a critical eye over the way you have presented yourself.

Baby Sitter Interview Questions

Most times you would have you interview with the agency however sometimes families may want to interview you too. The best way to find a Baby Sitting job is to register with agencies and wait for them to call you for a job.

Baby sitting job can be part-time or full-time, sometimes parents may want to work with you regularly.

Interview questions for a babysitting role conducted by the family who you are potentially going to be babysitting for are most likely to be quite personal. Its a lot different to working in a business environment as you are in someone else’s house with their children, the most precious things they have and they are looking for someone to trust to look after their children.

Apart from general questions about your previous work experience they will want to know how you deal with certain situations for example: if you are being employed just to babysit at night potentially when the child/children are asleep they will want to know what you will do if they wake up and are upset? Will you go and check the children and how many times? If you are being employed to babysit in the day or when the children are awake they will want to know what you will do if a child refuses to do something such as eat their lunch, snack etc, how will you deal with this? They will want to know what kind of activities you will do with the children, whether you can take them to the park etc, do you drive, think about your situation/location and what you could do and where you could take them.

Should a family be interested in you, ensure that you recommend meeting with the children and spending an hour or so getting to know them so that the first time you are in a working situation they are aware of who you are.

Sales Interviews

Interview questions for sales roles will include the standard questions already mentioned but depending on the company they will want to possibly do some kind of role play scenario so for example if you are selling cars they will probably do a customer, sales associate role play to see what answers you would give if you were face to face with a customer looking to spend a lot of money on a new car.

The key is always to do your research, you need to know as much as humanly possible about the company you are going for an interview with. The last thing you want to do is admit you don’t know.

The interviewer will be looking for your attitude and appearance. How do you handle yourself in any situation, do you get flustered, stay calm, are you smart in your appearance?

They will want to know what drives you, is it money and meeting targets? They will want you to be  a careful balance of someone who wants to hit their targets every month but someone who is also very considerate and a good loyal employee. Learn the product you are hoping to sell and maybe to wow them demonstrate how you would do this, you want to stand out from the others. Good Luck.

How to Answer Tell me About Yourself Interview Question

Last updated : 8 November 2018

By Guest Author

Tell me About Yourself

This interview question can be a bit tricky to answer. It is one that most people will ask and it is important to be honest because, like with all questions, you want to make sure that you will fit in with the team you will be working with. It is important to give a positive impression though and this is really your chance to describe your personality. It can be worth trying to fit in some traits that you have that might be suitable for the job, but generally anything that will show your positive qualities.
You could make it more about you or about how you are in a work environment. It could be good to change it depending on what else you have said in the interview so far. If you have discussed a lot of things about your approach to work, then something more personal could be better. If you have not had a chance to talk about everything you wanted with regards to your working style, then you could include.

If you are asked the question at the beginning of the interview, then you will need to approach it differently to if you asked at the end. At the beginning you will need to focus on the skills you have that fit in with the job. Never ask back ‘what do you want to know’ as it makes you look unprepared.

You need to highlight important achievements that are relevant to the job and keep it short. It is not an excuse to give your whole life story.

An example could be : I have a PhD in psychology which gave me the skills that I needed to do the research role at the University of Wolverhampton that I have just completed. I was able to build on my theoretical studies and now feel I have the necessary practical skills to take on many more research projects such as this one. The fact that this job is working in a similar field of child behaviour means that I already have many of skills as well as background knowledge necessary for the role.

Another example : My previous work in retail has given me the skills needed to know what it is to be in this environment. My management qualification has given me theoretical understanding of leading a retail team. I feel that this job as a retail manager will combine both my experience and qualifications to give me the perfect opportunity to show what I have learned.

So tell us about yourself!
