Dear HR

I would like to apply for the role of Project Engineer as advertised recently.

I have a degree in Engineering and, as a project engineer who is part of a project management team, I have a lot of responsibility directing a team of individuals and keeping track of several projects, from monitoring status, through to taking the long view – evaluating economic factors for future projects.

I have to ensure that the various parts are progressing, and that the project works as a whole. I get involved at every level of the project from concept to production and everything in between. I often have a wide range of different projects on the go at the same time, all at different phases of development.

Although my routine varies, it generally comprises ensuring a project is fit-for-purpose and adheres to the project budget and schedule, that all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed; I have to account for engineering tasks to ensure they meet contract requirements, develop project-specific procedures for the work to be carried out,  ensure all justifications for contractual variations during projects are maintained to support subsequent commercial claims and take responsibility for a team of engineers and training/mentoring junior engineers.

I now wish to progress to senior engineer, or project manager, and eventually overall operations manager and would like to apply for this position as it offers a pathway to providing this career opportunity.

I enclose my CV and am available for interview at your convenience. References are available on request and I very much look forward to hearing from you as appropriate.
