Dear Sirs

I would like to apply for the role of Surveyor as advertised recently.

I am a fully qualified (ARICS) building surveyor, currently working for a firm of managing agents, who oversee a large portfolio of properties across the London area as well as having some stock in other major Cities across Britain. I am, therefore, required to travel on occasion to view some of the firm’s portfolio to carry out dilapidation and maintenance checks.

Most of our work involves over-seeing the design of large, multimillion-pound structures and adaptations and repairs and maintenance, and sometimes includes working with buildings of architectural or historic importance.
I have also on occasion had to attend Court to give evidence where commercial tenants have breached building regulations.

My role involves ensuring projects are completed on budget and to schedule; advising Partners on schemes and projects and determining requirements; preparing scheme designs with costings, programmes for completion of projects and specification of works; preparing documents for tender and advising on appointing contractors, designers and procurement routes; determining the condition of existing buildings, identifying and analysing defects, including proposals for repair.

I also look at new techniques such as energy efficiency, environmental impact and sustainable construction; the preservation/conservation of historic buildings; and dealing with planning applications and advising on property legislation and building regulations; assessing and designing buildings to meet the needs of people with disabilities; advising on boundary and rights of light disputes and party wall procedures; and preparing insurance assessments and claims.

I am interested in this role as I want to move away from general commercial work to work more with historical buildings, which is the area that most concerns your portfolio of properties.

I enclose my CV and am available for interview at your convenience. References are available on request and I very much look forward to hearing from you as appropriate.

Yours faithfully
