Tesco Pendleton Store to Create 600 Job Vacancies

Tesco, the retail giant, have now been given the green light to build a new supermarket in Pendleton, near Salford, Manchester.

According to Manchester Evening News, Tesco will create over 600 supermarket job vacancies and possibly more will be created once construction starts.

Matthew Magee, corporate affairs manager for Tesco, commented on the project: “We’re really pleased that we can now press ahead with an exciting new store for Pendleton.”

The company will start working on the construction at the beginning of 2012 and grand opening will be in early 2013 with the creation of 600 jobs.

More than half of the jobs will go to those who have been unemployed for more than 6 months.

Tesco Pendleton store will be a green site which will reuse waste vegetable oil for heating and natural lighting in the roof will reduce the use of artificial lighting.

As usual there were worries about new Tesco store. Some people and local businesses thought that the project would be harmful for the local trade in the town.

However the permissions have been given now and Tesco say that their new store will bring thousands of shoppers to the Salford Shopping Centre which will also be potential buyers for the shops in the centre.

Tesco currently have over 2,700 stores across the UK and this number is increasing every other day. The company say that new 140,000 sq ft store will cost up to £40m.

There will be wide range of job vacancies to be created at the new store of Tesco. You can apply for the positions:

Checkout assistants
Customer service assistants
Supervisors
Managers
Trolley operators
Accounts
Delivery drivers

In order to apply for those job vacancies mentioned above, you will need to visit the store and ask about current vacancies. You may also ask for an application form.

All jobs will be advertised on tesco-careers.com, local recruitment agencies and local Job Centre plus.

You may be only interested in the construction jobs that the project will create, in which case you will need to contact the development company.
